“I STOOD BY HER WHEN SHE WAS BROKEN”

Dear Move On 101,

Sally and I have been together for 12 years. She is the epitome of a modern and independent woman. She is a successful lawyer and is respected by her peers. I manage our small family business, a furniture shop, and generally takes care of our only son Chad.

Last year, my wife went through her toughest challenge, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to go through chemo therapy and temporarily leave her job at the law firm. Most of our savings were spent on her medication. She became irritable and impatient. She would shout at me and my son Chad out of nowhere. I would see her cry on one corner and blame herself for the sufferings of my family. She talked to me a few times to leave her. She was indeed broken. Her soul was crushing and she needed me, her man, as her source of strength.

Instead of fighting with her, I started "courting" her again. Every morning she would she a note on the mirror of our CR saying how much I love her and how beautiful has always been (At one point she was completely bald because of her chemo). I would send flowers, cakes, chocolates at home when I am at work and cook for her. I would spoon her on our sleep to make her feel I was just there for her.

Right now, Sally isn't exactly in perfect shape yet but I see in her eyes that she is fighting cancer like a seasoned warrior. Her doctor is optimistic that her ongoing treatment will clear her from the disease anytime soon.

Relationships go through tough times and knowing that your love is stronger than anything else will keep you together...
